International English Camp 2015 Volunteers Needed!

About the Camp

Hello! This is the Recovery Assistance Center of Miyagi which runs International English Camp. The organization was launched 4 days after the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011 and has been supporting Miyagi, Fukushima, and Iwate prefectures providing humanitarian aids to temporary shelters, elders, and children in the affected areas. The parent organization is called NPO GAKUWARINET which provides international and cultural solutions to the community in Sendai such as assistance to the foreign students, school-visit programs for international understanding, and management of the language school.

A lot of children still has a psychological scar in their mind because of the disaster in 2011. Through the interaction with the volunteering staff from international backgrounds, the English camp provides the children with encouragement and the chance to develop the sense of proactiveness, independence, and awareness to the world outside Japan. The maximum number of the children attending each English camp is 100. Thanks to the participation fees paid by the children, we invite 5 children in each camp for free who were directly affected by the disaster and still live in a temporary shelter or take refuge in Kanto region. We also provide the free school-visit events for international understanding to elementary schools with the profit from the English camp.
